Conscious human perception in terms of experience and action is limited to the present moment and subjective experiences. We constantly wish to be able to take on many perspectives and consider extensive information in order to come closer to our desire for predictability, controllability, and improvement in our lives. Digital twins already promise us this today.
A digital twin is a digital representation of a material or immaterial object or process from the real world in the digital world. It is irrelevant whether the counterpart already exists in the real world or will only exist in the future.
We see the digital twin as an enabler that offers people a practical interface for mastering complex realities.
This opens up a clear view of the diverse influences and interactions that are addressed by the “AK Digital Twin” working group:
How can the digital twin integrate and connect different perspectives and knowledge?
What opportunities do new technologies create for the digital twin and vice versa?
What are the new potentials for multiple areas of application?
How can the digital twin support transformation?
What effects does the digital twin have on our society and can it help us improve our society?
With the “AK Digital Twin” working group, we want to highlight and discuss digital twins and their opportunities and risks, and provide guidance. In doing so, we aim to create a qualified basis for the potential and benefits of digital twins with positive objectives.
