Save-The-Date: Conference “Generative AI unleashed: control, creativity, crisis?”

Conference “Generative AI unleashed: control, creativity, crisis?”

Almost three years ago, an inconspicuous chatbot sent the digital ecosystem into turmoil: ChatGPT marked the start of a “Cambrian explosion” of digital services that has since captured and conquered many areas of life and work.
Generative AI is currently regarded as the defining force of technological progress – raising hopes and shaping expectations for the future, but also fueling fear and concern about far-reaching upheavals.

While generative AI has opened up new opportunities for a wide range of domains as a basic technology, it also brings with it as yet unknown problems.
Philosopher Nick Bostrom, for example, says: “The biggest problem with AI is not malice, but the misalignment of its goals with ours.” Communications expert Miriam Merkel complains “Text incest is looming!”, referring to the flood of synthetically created content that threatens to inundate us.
Generative AI is already having a serious impact on knowledge, creativity and even entire information ecosystems. At the same time, it promises unimagined leaps in performance, for example in robotics, and provides previously unimaginable capabilities for learning and acting in real time.

This conference invites decision-makers, researchers and experts from various disciplines to pause for thought after almost three years of rapid developments in this area. We want to identify the current challenges and explore their medium and long-term conditions.
Such an overview can only emerge from multidisciplinary perspectives. They help to find orientation in the currently rapidly changing field of tension between technology, economy and society.

Through interdisciplinary exchange and critical reflection, we want to provide the public with fresh impetus for the next steps in dealing with generative AI – between control, creativity and crisis.

Further details and the official invitation will follow shortly, so please block the date now – we look forward to your participation and exciting discussions.
